Iranian PersianGrammar0 to A1 CourseLesson 5: Present tense conjugation of regular verbs

Heading level 1[redaktə | mənbəni redaktə et]

Welcome to Lesson 5 of the Complete 0 to A1 Iranian Persian Course! In this lesson, you will learn how to conjugate regular verbs in the present tense and make simple statements in the affirmative, negative, and interrogative form.

Heading level 2: Present Tense in Iranian Persian[redaktə | mənbəni redaktə et]

In Iranian Persian, the present tense is used to describe actions happening right now and habitual actions. To form the present tense of regular verbs, you need to add certain suffixes to the verb stem according to the pronoun you are using.

The present tense suffixes for the pronouns are as follows:

Pronoun Suffix
من (I) -am
تو (you) -i
او/اون (he/she/they) -ad
ما (we) -im
شما (you all) -id
آن‌ها (they) -and

For example, to form the present tense of the verb "to read" (خواندن), you need to remove the infinitive suffix "-ن" and add the appropriate present tense suffix according to the pronoun. The table below shows the conjugation of the verb "to read" in the present tense:

Pronoun Verb Present Tense
من (I) خواندن می‌خوانم
تو (you) خواندن می‌خوانی
او/اون (he/she/they) خواندن می‌خواند
ما (we) خواندن می‌خوانیم
شما (you all) خواندن می‌خوانید
آن‌ها (they) خواندن می‌خوانند

Note that the prefix "می" is added before the present tense suffix to indicate the present tense.

Heading level 2: Affirmative, Negative, and Interrogative Statements[redaktə | mənbəni redaktə et]

Now that you know how to form the present tense of regular verbs, you can use them to make simple statements in the affirmative, negative, and interrogative form.

To make an affirmative statement, you simply need to use the present tense form of the verb and add the appropriate subject pronoun. For example:

  • من می‌خوانم. (I am reading.)

To make a negative statement, you need to use the present tense form of the verb, add the negative particle "نه" after the subject pronoun, and add the word "نمی" before the verb. For example:

  • من نمی‌خوانم. (I am not reading.)

To make an interrogative statement, you need to use the present tense form of the verb, add the appropriate subject pronoun, and add the question particle "آیا" at the beginning of the sentence. For example:

  • آیا من می‌خوانم؟ (Am I reading?)
