Colors

Colors are all around us, and it's important to know the names of different colors in Panjabi to communicate effectively. Here are some of the most common colors in Panjabi:

Panjabi Pronunciation English
ਸਫ਼਼ਿਦ / Sāfid [sāfīd] White
ਕਾਲਾ / Kālā [kālā] Black
ਲਾਲ / Lāl [lāl] Red
ਪੀਲਾ / Pīlā [pīlā] Yellow
ਹਰਾ / Harā [harā] Green
ਨੀਲਾ / Nīlā [nīlā] Blue
ਸੁੰਘਿਟਾਂਗਿਆ / Suṅghitā̃giā [suŋɦtā̃ɡɪā] Orange
ਗੁਲਾਬੀ / Gulābī [gulābī] Pink
ਭੂਰਾ / Bhūrā [bhūrā] Brown

Note that the colors are commonly used as adjectives to describe nouns. For example, ਲਾਲ ਫੂਲ / Lāl phūl means "red flower." You can also use colors to describe objects in more detail. For example, if you want to describe a light blue color, you can say ਹਲਕਾ ਨੀਲਾ / Halkā nīlā (light blue).

It's important to note that colors are sometimes spelled differently in Panjabi depending on the context or the object being described. For example, the color orange can be spelled as ਨਾਰਾਂਗੀ / Nārāngī or ਸੁੰਘਿਟਾਂਗਿਆ / Suṅghitā̃giā. In general, both spellings are acceptable and commonly used.

Shapes

Shapes are another important aspect of everyday vocabulary in Panjabi. Here are some of the most common shapes in Panjabi:

  • ਵਰਤਣ ਦੀ ਤਰਾਂਗ / Vartaṇ dī tarā̃g (Circle)
  • ਅੰਗਿੱਠਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਲੱਕੜ / Aṅgithiā̃ dī lakkar (Rectangle)
  • ਤਿੰਨ ਕਿਨਾਰਿਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਮਤਲ ਆਖਾਂ / Tinn kināriā̃ vālā samtal ākhā̃ (Triangle)
  • ਅਜਿਹਾ ਚਾਰੋਂ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਮਤਲ ਆਖਾਂ / Ajihā chārõ kināre vālā samtal ākhā̃ (Square)

Shapes are also commonly used to describe objects around us. For example, if you want to describe a circular object, you can say ਵਰਤਣ ਦੀ ਤਰਾਂਗ ਵਾਲਾ / Vartaṇ dī tarā̃g vālā (circular). Similarly, if you want to describe a rectangular object, you can say ਅੰਗਿੱਠਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਲੱਕੜ ਵਾਲਾ / Aṅgithiā̃ dī lakkar vālā (rectangular).

Knowing colors and shapes in Panjabi is a great way to communicate more effectively and precisely with native speakers. Try practicing these new words in your daily life and see how they can enhance your communication skills.
