Expressing Your Opinion[edit | edit source]

When giving your opinion in Javanese, you can use various phrases depending on the situation. Here are some common ones:

  • Yen aku ngomong apa adoh mboten apik. (If I may speak bluntly, it's not good)
  • Sebagai pendapatku... (In my opinion...)
  • Aku setuju (I agree)
  • Aku ora setuju (I disagree)
  • Menurutku... (According to me...)

These phrases are commonly used in daily conversations in Javanese society.

Below is a dialogue between two friends discussing their favorite movies:

  • Person 1: Film favoritku The Raid. Aku suka adegan perkelahian yang menegangkan. (My favorite movie is The Raid. I love the suspenseful fight scenes.)
  • Person 2: Menurut aku, The Raid sangat kekerasan dan menakutkan. Lebih baik nonton film yang lebih santai. (According to me, The Raid is very violent and scary. It's better to watch a more relaxed movie.)

Giving Reasons and Supporting Your Opinion[edit | edit source]

When giving your opinion, it's important to give reasons and support your statements. Here are some common phrases you can use:

  • Kulo kandhani yen... (I believe that...)
  • Apa karepe kowe? (What do you think?)
  • Sawetara alasan mengapa aku berpikir demikian adalah... (Some reasons why I think that are...)
  • Ing ngisor iki, aku bakal ngomong cara kanggo ngresapi.. (Below, I will explain a way to understand it..)

By giving reasons and examples to support your opinions, you are able to express yourself clearer and make your point understood.

Below is a dialogue between two friends discussing their favorite foods:

  • Person 1: Aku suka nasi goreng karena rasanya enak dan mudah dibuat. (I like fried rice because it tastes good and is easy to make.)
  • Person 2: Kulo kandhani kue cubit enak banget. Yen diolah sampean bisa cobak dan merasakan rasa manis dan lembutnya. (I believe that kue cubit is very delicious. If you make it, you can taste its sweet and soft flavor.)

Asking for Opinions[edit | edit source]

In Javanese, you can also ask for someone's opinion. Here are some common phrases:

  • Apa karepe sampeyan? (What do you think?)
  • Nggih sanajan sayaiki? (Yes, even now?)
  • Padha ngomong yenopo, yen sithik? (What do you all think, if I may ask?)
  • Pundi sampeyan ngrasakake apa? (What do you feel about it?)

By asking for opinions, you are able to learn more about someone's thoughts and feelings on a particular topic.

  • Person 1: Lakoni apa kowe isih mikir nang akhir minggu nanti? (What are you planning to do this weekend?)
  • Person 2: Aku mikir nang papanangan ora pepak. (I'm thinking of going to the beach.)
  • Person 1: Apa karepe sampeyan? (What do you think?)
  • Person 2: Sing ora bisa padha weteng, mungkin ngungsikan pizza lan adhem. (For those who can't go, maybe we can order pizza and watch movies.)
