Igbo Grammar - Give your Opinion

In this lesson, we will be learning how to give our opinion in Igbo. Giving an opinion in Igbo is an essential skill for effective communication. Expressing your thoughts and feelings about a particular issue will help you connect better with native speakers and improve your language skills.

Expressing Personal Opinion[edit | edit source]

The following Igbo phrases will help you express your personal opinion:

Igbo Pronunciation English
Mba ka m di nma. mm-ba ka m dee nma I think it is good.
Mba ka m di ocha. mm-ba ka m dee o-cha I think it is bad.
Acho m ihe ahu n'etu. a-cho m ee-he ah-hoo nay-too In my opinion, that thing is difficult.
Mba ka m si asi. mm-ba ka m see a-see I think it is easy.

Dialogue:

  • Person 1: Mba ka m di nma. (I think it is good)
  • Person 2: Onye amuma n'aka di ocha. (Someone else thinks it is bad)

Agreeing and Disagreeing[edit | edit source]

Once you've given your opinion, you may want to agree or disagree with someone else's opinion. Here are some Igbo phrases that will help you do just that:

Igbo Pronunciation English
A di m mma. ah dee mm-ma I agree.
Maka na-enweghi ihe ị mere. ma-ka na-en-weghi ee-he ee-may-ray Because there is nothing else to say.
Ị na-eme ka m si asi. ee na-eh-may ka m see a-see You are right. (Literally: You walk like I think.)
A di m ocha. ah-dee-m oh-cha I disagree.

Dialogue:

  • Person 1: Mba ka m di nma. (I think it is good)
  • Person 2: A di m mma. (I agree)

Asking for Opinion[edit | edit source]

Sometimes, you may want to ask for someone's opinion. These Igbo phrases will help you:
Igbo Pronunciation English
Kedụ ka ihe mere n'anya? keh-doo ka ee-heh may-ray naa-nya What do you think about it?
Kedụ ka ị sị na ị di m asi? keh-doo ka ee-see na ee-dee m a-see What do you think that I should do?

Dialogue:

  • Person 1: Kedụ ka ihe mere n'anya? (What do you think about it?)
  • Person 2: Mba ka m di nma. (I think it is good.)

Remember to listen attentively and speak clearly when giving or asking for opinions. It's also important to understand the Igbo culture and how opinions are expressed in different situations.
