Here is a list of the seven days of the week in Lao language:

It's important to note that the Lao language follows the Buddhist calendar, which means that the days of the week are based on a lunar cycle. This is why the names of the days of the week have religious meanings.

Notice how we can use เบ™เบตเป‰ (ni) to describe today, or เบซเบงเบฑเบ‡ (vang) to describe yesterday. We use the word เบญเบทเปˆเบ™ (euin) to describe tomorrow, or เบ•เบญเบ™เบ™เบตเป‰ (ton ni) for yesterday.

Here's an example of a dialogue to help you practice:

  • Person 1: เบงเบฑเบ™เบ™เบตเป‰เป€เบ”เบทเบญเบ™เบžเบฐเบซเบฑเบ”. (Wan ni duen parot) (Today is Thursday.)
  • Person 2: เปเบกเปˆเบ™เบ™เบตเป‰เบ—เบตเปˆเบ™เบตเป‰เปเบกเปˆเบ™เบงเบฑเบ™เบชเบธเบ. (Mae ni thi ni mae wan suk.) (Today is Friday.)

In Lao culture, Saturday is considered an auspicious day for weddings. Most Lao weddings occur on a Saturday because it is believed that Saturday is the day that brings the most luck and prosperity for the couple.

Additionally, Lao people view Monday as a day of good fortune. According to Buddhist beliefs, Monday is the day when most of us start our workweek. Therefore, it's a good day to seek blessings and pray for success in work and business.
