Igbo Vocabulary - Health

Hi Igbo learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will be learning about health-related vocabulary in Igbo. Health is wealth as they say, and it is important to be able to express oneself when it comes to health issues. We will be covering common health conditions, body parts, and other related vocabulary. It is important to know Igbo vocabulary related to common health conditions. You never know when you or someone you know might need to use them. The following table will have some examples of health conditions and their Igbo translations, accompanied by their pronunciations and English translations:

It's important to be able to describe different parts of the body when discussing health issues. The following table contains some examples of body parts translated to Igbo:

Some useful phrases to know when discussing health issues:

  • Bekee ga-alụ ụkwụ (My back hurts)
  • A naghị ebe a na-eme n'ihi ihe mmanya na-eme (I don't know what's wrong with me)
  • Ahụ m na-akpọ gi (I have a cough)
  • Igwe ahụ na-elekọta m (I need to see a doctor)
  • A nweghị ihe n'ihu na-inweghị mma (I don't feel well)
  • A gazịkwa m na ihe mere na-akpọ m (I think I caught what caused my cough)

Person 1: Kedụ ka ị na-akpọ mgbe ụtụtụ bụla were na'ihe tí ị na-ekwu nó? (What did you do when you started sneezing non-stop earlier?) Person 2: M kata ihe ị ga-anwụ na-akpọ m. (I don't know what caused my cough.) Person 1: Hm, ka ị nyegharịa maka ego nke ị. (Hm, let me ask about your eyes.)
