The verb 姓 (xìng) in Chinese literally means "to be named" or "to have the name of".


Structure

Subject + 姓 + name

Examples

  • 我 姓 王。

Wǒ xìng Wáng.

My name is Wang.

  • 他 姓 李。

Tā xìng Lǐ.

His name is Li.

  • 那 个 帅哥 姓 张。

Nàgè shuàigē xìng Zhāng.

The name of this handsome kid is Zhang.

  • 我 爸爸 姓 周,我 妈妈 姓 林 。我 叫 周林。

Wǒ bàba xìng Zhōu, wǒ māmā xìng Lín. Wǒ jiào Zhōu Lín.

My father's name is Zhou, The name of my mother Lin. My name is Zhou Lin.

  • 我 女朋友 姓 钱。

Wǒ nǚ péngyǒu xìng Qián.

My girlfriend's name is Qian.

  • 你好,我 姓 毛。

Nǐ hǎo, wǒ xìng Máo.

Hello, my name is Mao.
