Now that you know the basic vocabulary, let's move on to telling time.

Telling Time

In South Azerbaijani, we use the 12-hour clock system. To tell time, we use the following formula:

[hour] + [saat] + [minute]

For example:

  • 7:00 AM = yeddi saat
  • 3:15 PM = üç saat on beş dəqiqə
  • 11:45 PM = on bir saat qırıq ya bir dəqiqə qalıb

To say quarter-past or half-past the hour, we use the following phrases:

  • quarter-past = işə yarım
  • half-past = tam yarım

For example:

  • 8:15 AM = səkkiz saat işə yarım
  • 1:30 PM = bir saat tam yarım

To say quarter-to the next hour, we use the phrase:

  • quarter-to = bir çəyir

For example:

  • 10:45 PM = on bir saat bir çəyir qalıb

When asking for the time, you can say:

  • saatımız necədir? = What is the time?

And when answering, you can say:

  • saat [hour] + [saat] + [minute]-dır = It is [hour] + [saat] + [minute]

For example:

  • saatımız necədir? = What is the time?
  • saat səkkiz + saat + on dəqiqə-dir = It is 8:10

Talking About Daily Routines

Now that you know how to tell time, let's learn how to talk about daily routines. Here are some useful phrases:

  • mən gündüz işləyirəm = I work during the day
  • mən axşam istirahət edirəm = I rest in the evening
  • mən gecə yatıram = I go to bed at night
  • mən sabahları yemək yeyirəm = I eat breakfast in the morning

When asking someone about their daily routine, you can use the following phrase:

  • gündəlik həyatınız necədir? = How is your daily life?

And when answering, you can say:

  • mənim gündəlik həyatım [activity] + [time] -dən ibarətdir = My daily life consists of [activity] + [time]

For example:

  • gündəlik həyatınız necədir? = How is your daily life?
  • mənim gündəlik həyatım işləmək + səkkiz saat -dən ibarətdir = My daily life consists of working from 8 AM
