Slovak Vocabulary → Unit 10: Time and Dates → Days of the Week and Months of the Year

As a Slovak language teacher, I always find the units related to time and dates to be very important in any language learning process. We use these words every day! Whether it's setting up a meeting, scheduling an appointment, or simply talking to a friend, knowing how to express dates and days in Slovak can be incredibly useful. In this lesson, we will focus on vocabulary related to the days of the week and months of the year in Slovak.

Days of the Week

Let's start with the days of the week. Here they are in Slovak, along with their pronunciation and English translations:

Pondelok ['pɔndɛlɔk] Monday
Utorok ['utɔrɔk] Tuesday
Streda ['strɛda] Wednesday
Štvrtok ['ʃtvrtɔk] Thursday

Here are few phrases that can be useful in conversation:

  • What day is it? - Koľká je dnes [názov dňa]?
  • Today is Monday. - Dnes je pondelok.
  • Tomorrow is Tuesday. - Zajtra je utorok.
  • I have an appointment on Wednesday. - Mám stretnutie v stredu.

Months of the Year

Now let's move on to the months of the year. Here they are in Slovak, along with their pronunciation and English translations:
