Rules
The rules for expressing gender in Vietnamese are quite simple. Here are some of the most common rules:
- Masculine words usually end in '-ng' or '-c'.
- Feminine words usually end in '-i' or '-y'.
- Some words have both masculine and feminine forms. For example, the word for 'teacher' can be either 'giáo viên' (masculine) or 'giáo viên nữ' (feminine).
- Some words have no gender. For example, the word for 'student' is 'học sinh', which has no gender.
