Czech Grammar - Future Tense

Hi Czech learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about the future tense in Czech. We will look at how to form the future tense, when to use it, and some examples of how it is used in everyday conversations.

The future tense in Czech is formed using the verb být (to be) and the infinitive form of the verb. The conjugation of být in the future tense is as follows:

Person Singular Plural
1st budu budeme
2nd budeš budete
3rd bude budou

To form the future tense, you take the conjugated form of být and add the infinitive form of the verb. For example, the future tense of jít (to go) is půjdu (I will go).

The future tense is used to talk about actions that will happen in the future. It can also be used to express probability or possibility. For example:

  • Budu jíst zítra večer. (I will eat tomorrow evening.)
  • Bude pršet zítra. (It will rain tomorrow.)
  • Možná budu mít čas. (Maybe I will have time.)

The future tense can also be used to express a wish or desire. For example:

  • Ať budeš šťastný. (May you be happy.)
  • Budu mít úspěch. (I will have success.)
