Nepali Music and Dance

Music and dance are a significant part of Nepali culture. Traditional Nepali music is based on classical melodies and has been influenced by Indian music, particularly Hindustani music. Nepali music also incorporates elements of folk music from different regions of Nepal.

Traditional Nepali Music

Traditional Nepali music is popularly known as 'Sugam Sangeet'. It is a form of classical music that is enjoyed by people of all ages and is characterized by its melodious tunes and soulful lyrics.

One popular form of traditional Nepali music is Bhajan. It is devotional music that is sung to express devotion to God. Bhajan is typically sung in a call-and-response format, with a group of singers responding to the lead singer.

Nepali folk music is another form of traditional music that is widely popular among the Nepali people. It includes different varieties of music depending on the region, among them Dohori, Dappa, Rodhi, and Teej songs. These songs are accompanied by local instruments such as the madal, sarangi, and harmonium.

Dhungro Dance

Dhungro Dance is a traditional dance that originated in the mountainous regions of Nepal. It is often performed during festivals or during weddings. The dancers wear traditional colorful dresses and bells around their ankles, and they move to the sound of the dhunga and madal.
