Manner Adverbs

Manner adverbs are used to describe how something is done. They answer the questions "how?" or "in what manner?". In English, many manner adverbs end in -ly, such as "quickly", "slowly", "happily", and "sadly". In Northern Kurdish, manner adverbs are formed by adding -ên to the adjective stem. For example:

Northern Kurdish Pronunciation English
çêtir /tʃe:tir/ better
çêtirên /tʃe:ti:re:n/ more better

Here are some examples:

  • Hûn diçin zelalên. (You walk nicely.)
  • Wî gava xweşîyê xwe werdigirt. (He smiled happily.)

Negative Manner Adverbs

To form the negative of manner adverbs, add the negation particle ne before the manner adverb. For example:

  • Ne çêtirên (not more better)
